How many days between recharging opportunities

Daily Power Consumption

Typical: 4-6 hours depending on location

Off-Grid System Sizing Guide

Battery Capacity Formula:

Total Wh Needed = Daily Consumption × Days Off-Grid

With Solar Recharging:

Net Wh Needed = Total - (Solar Panel Wh × Sun Hours × Days × 0.8)

Solar Panel Sizing:

Required Solar = Daily Consumption ÷ (Sun Hours × 0.8)

The 0.8 factor accounts for charging inefficiency, non-ideal angles, and weather variability.

Off-Grid Living Tips

  • Oversize your system: Add 25-50% capacity buffer for cloudy days and battery degradation
  • Energy efficiency first: LED lights, efficient appliances, and good insulation reduce power needs
  • Battery maintenance: Keep LiFePO4 batteries between 20-80% charge for longest life
  • Expandability: Choose systems that support additional batteries and solar panels
  • Backup plan: Have a small gas generator for extended cloudy periods
  • Monitor usage: Track daily consumption to optimize your system
